An effective performance management system should serve as a cornerstone and driving force behind all organisational decisions, work efforts, and resource allocations. An effective performance managenment process generally starts with identifying clear goals, which are used as the foundation for ongoing coaching and performance review.

Performance Management Involes:
Analizing the objectives and goals for your department or work unit and ensuring that they relate to the overall goals of your company or organization. Analyzing your employee's skill and assignments as they relate to company, department, or unit goals. Clearly communicationg performance goals and expections to each employee and gaining agreement on those goals and expectations. Recognizing and acknowledging the good performance of employees. Recognizing where performance needs to be improved and providing employees with the necessary support to improve it.

Why Performance Management Is Essential?
Performance management supports overall business goals by linking the work of each individual employee and manage to the overall mission of his or her work unit. All employees, therefore, play a key role in the success of their company or organisation. How well you manage the performance of your employees directly affects not only the performance of the individual employee and your work unit but also the performance of the entire company. When employees are clear about what is expected of them and have the necessary support to contribute to an organisation efficiently and productively, their sense of purpose, self-worth,and motivation will increase. Performance management links an organisation's overall business goals to the work of every employee or manager. Organization goals can be accomplished only through the efforts of individual employees. Employees need clear goals and ongoing feedback for continuous improvement. Performance management involves three key stages: Performance and development planning. Interim coaching and progress reviews. Performance appraisal and development review.

The overall purpose of performance and development planning is to Make performance expectations explicit. Tie individual performance to organisation and department business plans. Identify measurement or evaluation criteria for performance. Identify "gaps" in knowledge or skill required to achieve exoectations. Describe specific development activities. Many companies assess their employee's performance on an annual or quarterly basis in order to define certains areas that need improvement. Performance is a critical factor in organizational success.

What Is Employee Performance Appraisal??
An employee performance appraisal is a process—often combining both written and oral elements—whereby management evaluates and provides feedback onemployee job performance, including steps to improve or redirect activities as needed. Documenting performance provides a basis for pay increases and promotions.
